Special Health Resources for Texas, Inc. (SHRT) specializes
in substance abuse and HIV/AIDS, while delivering comprehensive physical
and mental health care of the highest standards to 23 East Texas
counties. SHRT began
providing HIV services in 1989. In 1995 SHRT opened the first
statewide specialized inpatient treatment program in the State of
Texas for people with HIV and substance abuse issues. HRSA
recognized Wellspring Recovery Center as one of 12 model programs
in the U.S.A. for HIV/Substance Abuse. SHRT provides comprehensive
prevention, intervention, and treatment services for HIV and substance
abuse.
- Didactic lectures and interactive workshops are provided. Topics
include HIV and Primary Care, Perinatal, and Substance Abuse
Workshops.
- Target Audience: Mid-level Practitioners, Physicians, Nurses,
Social Workers, and Substance Abuse Counselors.
Clinical consultations are available to provide
up-to-date information regarding specific aspects of HIV/AIDS & Substance
Abuse care.

Wendell, SHRT Executive
Director, serves as our LPS Administrator. He has worked
with HIV/Substance Abuse populations for 16 years as a case
manager, substance abuse counselor, clinical coordinator, program
manager, division director, and for the past 5 years as the
Executive Director. |

Nancy, SHRT Quality Assurance Coordinator, serves as our LPS Coordinator promoting and coordinating our HIV education and training to primary care providers in the East Texas area. She brings 20 years experience as a substance abuse counselor, 16 years with HIV populations to Special Health Resources. |

Dr. Scribner, SHRT Medical
Director, has served as the Medical Director for Special Health
Resources since 2002 and Infectious Diseases Consultant for a
multi-specialty group/hospital practice in Longview, Texas since
1999. She works as primary care provider in our HIV clinic,
shares her expertise lecturing extensively, and volunteers providing
HIV healthcare in Africa. |

Counselor, is an AETC HIV/Substance Abuse Education Specialist. She
brings 25 years of substance abuse counseling experience to
Special Health Resources. She specializes in HIV/Substance
Abuse/Dual Diagnosed populations. |
