Clinical ConsultationsServices - clinical consultations
(individual or group) have three intended results:

  • To improve clinical problem solving
  • To change the behavior of the provider in order for him/her to make better or more appropriate clinical care decisions
  • To impart the most up-to-date knowledge regarding specific HIV patient care

Health care professionals in Texas and Oklahoma caring for persons living with HIV/AIDS have access to consultation with HIV/AIDS experts located

at clinical centers and university medical centers on a number of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Viral load & CD4 count
  • Diagnostic techniques
  • OI prophylaxis and management
  • Management of pregnant women with HIV infection
  • Resistance testing
  • Drug interactions & toxicity
  • Antiretroviral treatment options
  • Management of occupational exposure

Clinical consultations in Texas are offered by Parkland Health & Hospital System (HIV Services) in Dallas, TX as well as many of our partners in education. For local contacts, please call the toll free number above for information.
Parkland provides HIV care to over 4,500 HIV positive clients per year; staffed by faculty from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Experts from Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, and Primary Care among others are available to provide the latest HIV treatment guidance.

 

Oklahoma

The University of Oklahoma Health Science Center Infectious Disease Division in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, provides HIV care for clients in the state of Oklahoma. Board certified Infectious Disease faculty are available to provide HIV treatment guidance to Oklahoma providers.

 

Nationally

The National Clinicians´Consultation Center provides clinical consultation across the U.S. and is located at the University of California, San Francisco at San Francisco General Hospital.  There are two ways in which they provide consultation, the Warmline and the PEPline.

 

Technical Assistance

Technical Assistance (TA) provides resources and guidance to improve HIV service delivery and performance at the organizational and individual provider levels. TA utilizes a consultation style approach, which is either organizational or AETC driven. The focus is on organizational or program structure issues.
