Clinical Consultation

Clinical consultations are provided to physicians, Nurse practitioners and physician assistants on a variety of topics, including antiretroviral therapy, drug interactions and resistance, HIV/AIDS treatment management, post-exposure prophylaxis and women's health.

Elizabeth Wanjiru, RN

Education Coordinator


Ms. Wanjiru serves in the Education Coordinator role at the Parkland LPS. Her experience in HIV/AIDS includes having been a clinical staff nurse at the Parkland HIV Clinic, as well as holding the role of Clinical Access Coordinator. This role involved getting HIV positive patients linked to medical care. Her non-HIV nursing practice includes experiences in Surgical and Trauma nursing. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Brookhaven/ El Centro College in 2000. Her Baccalaureate & Master of Nursing degrees were from the University of Texas in Arlington, in 2002 and 2009 respectively. She is a member of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care.

 

Sylvia Moreno, RN

    LPS Administrator


Sylvia is Director of HIV Services at Parkland Health & Hospital System, and oversees grant administration for Ryan White I/II/III/IV & Part F. She received her BSN from UT School of Nursing in 1986. She was instrumental in the establishment of the HIV Services program since its inception and has received numerous honors for her contributions to the HIV services field, including the CEO Award, Parkland Health & Hospital System, 1999; Above and Beyond Award, Parkland Health & Hospital System, 1999 and a Distinguished Human Services Professional of the Year award as Finalist from the Community Council of Greater Dallas, 1994. She serves as a HRSA consultant and has published and presented at the regional, national and international level.

Clinical Director


Dr. Armas has been a practicing internist in HIV services at Parkland Health & Hospital System since 1998. She completed fellowships in both women's health & general internal medicine. She is a clinical instructor at UTSW in the dept. of Internal Medicine. Her research interests include women with HIV & Continuing Medical Education. She is the Clinical Director for the TX/OK AETC.  Dr. Armas has presented and co-authored several publications and has presented within state, national & international arenas. She is fluent in English & Spanish.

Ashley Tijerina

Ashley Tijerina, AAS

     Evaluation Assistant


Ashley brings nine years of administrative support experience to AETC, including training coordination support for the Parkland Training & Development Department. Prior to working for Parkland Health & Hospital System, she worked as an Administrative Assistant to several Presidents and Vice Presidents at National Health Insurance Company as well as a non-profit organization, United Service Association for Health Care.

"HIV Clinical Case Conferences"

Description: HIV clinicians bring or present a case with questions you need answered or a very interesting case you would like to share with colleagues. 

This event is for HIV providers (physicians & mid-levels) pharmacists, & medical case management.
