Expertise/Specialty of LPS

Our OUHSC faculty specialize in general infectious diseases as well as HIV/AIDS care.  Special areas of HIV interest include women’s health and the Native American provider population.

 

Training

We offer all levels of provider training which include general lectures, interactive workshops, preceptorships (hands-on clinical or social work training), clinical consults, and capacity building opportunities.  Topics for workshops include antiretroviral treatment, opportunistic infections, post-exposure prophylaxis, HIV 101, Rapid Testing, and CDC Guidelines.

Wendy Newport, MBA, MPH

    LPS Administrator


Wendy Newport is the Site Administrator for the Department of Medicine, Infectious Diseases Section Local Performance Site and Co-Director Partner of the TX/OK AETC.  She received her Master of Business Administration and Master of Public Health simultaneously from the University of Oklahoma in 2000 and has been the Administrator for the Infectious Diseases Section since 1998.  Mrs. Newport is on the Board of Directors and is an officer of the AIDS Alliance for Children, Youth, and Families.  She has served as a Co-Chair and as a member of the Oklahoma HIV Treatment and Care Consortium and has assisted with the Statewide Coordinated Statement of Need for Oklahoma.  She also works closely with the Association of American Indian Physicians on HIV educational opportunities for providers of Native American clinical care.

Kimberly Walker

     LPS Coordinator

Ms. Walker fills the dual role of the LPS Coordinator for the TX/OK AETC at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and also serves as an Account I for the Department of Medicine, Infectious Disease Section. Ms. Walker graduated from Richland Community College in Decatur, IL with an Associate of Arts. She is currently continuing her education at the University of Oklahoma, majoring in zoology with a career focus in medicine. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and former member of the National Technical Honors Society. She is very active in her community and is a leader in her church youth ministry. Ms. Walker has a background in medical billing and has worked in the field for six years.

 

Jill Coleman, BS, Ed

Instructional Coordinator

Jill Coleman is the Health Educator at the Infectious Diseases Institute of The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She joins the TX/OK AIDS Education and Training Center as Instructional Coordinator. In this new role, she is responsible for coordinating education and training opportunities for clinicians who provide health care throughout Oklahoma. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1997 from The University of Oklahoma and worked with at-risk youth in Oklahoma for 11 years as a special education teacher before joining the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Jill is a "Fund for Teachers" Fellow and specializes in prevention programs for children, adolescents, and at-risk populations. Jill is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Prevention Science. She is the mother of two boys and is currently working on a teen survival handbook to help adolescents navigate the challenging teen years.

 

Linda Salinas, MD

   Medical Education Director


Dr. Linda J. Salinas serves at the Medical Education Director for the TX/OK AETC.  Dr. Salinas received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1995 from the American University of the Caribbean after which she completed her Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases training at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She joined the Infectious Diseases section in 2000 as an Assistant Professor and serves as the Principle Investigator for the Oklahoma local performance site (LPS). Dr. Salinas' clinical interests include caring for those living with HIV/AIDS and tick-borne illnesses.

 

 

 

Karen Kinney, MD

Faculty


Dr. Kinney is a clinical presenter for the Texas/Oklahoma AETC.  Dr. Kinney joined the faculty of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Department of Infectious Diseases Section in 2008 after being in private practice in Des Moines, Iowa for 8 years. She completed her medical school, internal medicine residency, and infectious disease fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, in Oklahoma City.  Both in private practice and in the Infectious Disease Section her clinical interests have included the treatment of HIV and Hepatitis C, general infectious diseases, and prosthetic device infections. Dr. Kinney is also interested in antimicrobial stewardship and S. aureus infections. She is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.

Linda Salinas, MD

This presentation includes what we know about reducing prenatal HIV transmission; highlights unique issues regarding HIV and pregnancy such as timing of perinatal HIV transmission, what to do when the HIV pregnant patient has not received prenatal care, and breast feeding and HIV infection. Various scenarios will be discussed such as HIV diagnosis at labor.
