HIV Epidemiology/Pathophysiology

This course is designed to provide basic knowledge regarding HIV and care.  Presentation will included discussion over the national and local HIV epidemic, natural history of HIV, HIV replication cycle, transmission, national medical guidelines regarding antiretroviral therapy, and testing and screening recommendations.  At the end of the program participants should be able to: describe the clinical manifestation of primary HIV infection, describe the natural history of HIV infection including viral load and CD4 cell response, and identify the patient population for which HIV testing is recommended.

Webcast: HIV & Pregnancy

Linda Salinas, MD

This presentation includes what we know about reducing prenatal HIV transmission; highlights unique issues regarding HIV and pregnancy such as timing of perinatal HIV transmission, what to do when the HIV pregnant patient has not received prenatal care, and breast feeding and HIV infection. Various scenarios will be discussed such as HIV diagnosis at labor. 

Learning Objectives:

    1. List the preferred HIV antiretroviral regimen for the prevention of perinatal transmission.
    2. Name the optimal time to start HIV antiretroviral aimed at the prevention of perinatal transmission.
    3. Describe the maternal and virologic factors that contribute to increased risk of HIV perinatal transmission.

In honor of the annual National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NNHAAD), TX/OK AIDS Education & Training Center in collaboration with the National Native American AIDS Prevention Center (NNAAPC), would like to invite you to attend this FREE one-day online educational training!  These sessions will feature an interactive web-based approach to learning! Participants will be able to view slides, hear audio through computer speakers, interact with presenters, chat, and answer polling questions.

"HIV Clinical Case Conferences"

Description: HIV clinicians bring or present a case with questions you need answered or a very interesting case you would like to share with colleagues. 

This event is for HIV providers (physicians & mid-levels) pharmacists, & medical case management. 

Dates: 1st Thursday of every month

Time: 1:30 - 2:30 pm
