The Baylor College of Dentistry LPS provides training in the dental
management of medically compromised patients including those with
HIV/AIDS. Topics include dental management of HIV/AIDS patients,
oral manifestations of HIV infection, blood-borne pathogen training,
AIDS/HIV epidemiology and pathogenesis, and post-exposure prophylaxis.
Training ranges from small to large group interactive lectures including
case studies and discussion. Independent case studies are published
each year and can be completed for CE credit. Clinical preceptorships
are offered several times a year allowing for hands-on evaluation
of HIV/AIDS patients in a clinical setting. Clinical consultations
are available on a continuing basis to provide quick and up-to-date
information regarding specific aspects of HIV/AIDS dental care.

Vendrell Rankin, DDS serves
as the Director for HSC-Baylor
College of Dentistry
Local Performance Site (LPS) for the Texas/Oklahoma AIDS Education
and Training Center. She is Professor and Associate Chair
in the Department of Public Health Sciences. Having served
as the Dental Director for the Dental Oncology Education Program
(DOEP) for 15 years she brings a wealth of experience in the
education of dental professionals and program management to
the Baylor College of Dentistry performance site. She
is the editor of the Oral Disease Update and a yearly
guest editor for the Texas Dental Journal. She
is funded by the National Cancer Institute, as well as the
Institute for Dental and Cranio-facial Research. She
is a Fellow in the American and the International College of
Dentists. |

Elain Benton,
RDH, BS is the Site Assistant for HSC-Baylor College
of Dentistry Local Performance Site of the TX/OK AETC. She
received her dental hygiene degree from Texas Woman's University
and is an Assistant Professor in the Department Public Health
Sciences at Baylor. She is on the Board of Directors
for the Tarrant County AIDS Interfaith Network and on the Dental
Advisory Committee for the Geisel-Morris Dental Clinic. She
served on the Ryan White Consortium for Dallas County as well
as the TX Statewide Coordinated Statement of Need Committee
for HRSA. She serves as the Tobacco Clinic Counselor
for Baylor College of Dentistry and is a certified Tobacco
Treatment Specialist. |

Jacqueline M.
Plemons DDS, MS serves as Dental Director for the
Texas/Oklahoma AIDS Education and Training Center and is a
Professor in the Department of Periodontics, HSC-Baylor College
of Dentistry, in Dallas, TX. She has considerable experience
in HIV training and curriculum development and lectures across
the United States regarding oral manifestations of HIV infection
and dental management of the HIV-infected patient. Dr.
Plemons staffs an oral medicine clinic (Stomatology Center)
at Baylor College of Dentistry and has been actively involved
in establishing community-based dental clinics in the Dallas/Fort
Worth area. She participates in dental clinic reviews
and chart audits on both a national (HRSA) and regional (Tarrant
County) level. |
