"Webcast: HIV & Substance Abuse"

presented by Phil Farmer, PhD.

 

Providers will review the challenges of working with HIV positive patients who abuse substances. Challenges include medication and appointment adherence; strategies to improve adherence will be discussed. Dr. Farmer will introduce the social work ‘Adherence Model’ and applications to use in the clinical setting.

Speaker Information

Dr. Farmer currently serves as the Executive Director for Special Health Resources for Texas located in Longview, TX. He has worked for various entities including Rusk State Hospital where he worked as a Clinical Social Work Supervisor; Etoile ISD where he served as a District Social Worker; and Client Services Director for Health Horizons of East Texas.


He brings work experience training social work students at Steven F. Austin State University and Social Work Counseling. Dr. Farmer was selected as the 1998-1999 “Teacher of the Year” by the Student Social Work Association.


Dr. Farmer’s professional certifications include: Licensed Master Social Worker, Certified Diagnostic and Evaluation Team Member, Qualified Mental Retardation Professional, Certified HIV Prevention Specialist/Supervisor, and Certified ETR Counselor.
